Note: this is the complete type-written document that Professor Noam Chomsky wrote in preparation for his Ph.D. thesis. The thesis itself, for the University of Pennsylvania, and available from ProQuest (former University Microfilms) included only a few chapters extracted from this full document. The document here also contains Chomsky's hand-written annotations that he made in preparation for the publication of this work as the book, The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory, University of Chicago Press, 1975. That book also excluded several chapters and appendices that are included in the complete document here.
This document has been made freely available with the kind permission of Professor Chomsky.

The pdf copy has been produced by scanning from the best available microfilm. It consists of .tiff images and so is not pdf searchable. While we have made every effort to produce as high quality a file as possible, due to age and other degradations, regrettably pages 2-7 (Chapter 0) are not as legible as the remainder. As of 4/24/07, thanks to Howard Lasnik, we can now provide a separate, somewhat more legible version of these 5 pages as a separate pdf file in the download section.

Thanks to Prof. Robert C. Berwick, Beracah Yankama, the Harvard College Library, Bev Stohl, Noam Chomsky, and MIT Document services for making this possible
